Book Review #69: A Return of Devotion

As you know, I’ve been devouring Kristi Ann Hunter’s books. I am obsessed with her two series: Haven Manor and Hawthorne House. What I really like, is both series are intertwined! I love it when an author mentions a character from one of their books, in another of their books! This is book two in her Haven Manor series. Here is A Return of Devotion.

For the past twelve years, Daphne’s life has been well planned, ordered and familiar. But it’s all changing. She’s been living in Haven Manor for the past twelve years, but the owner has never known it. His abandonment of the estate has been a blessing for Daphne’s project, but now the owner has died. And his heir is coming. Coming to a house that is supposed to have been abandoned. A house that most definitely has not been.

William wants a rest from London. A rest from his irksome stepmother and a rest from the memories of his dead father. But Haven Manor is not restful. It’s full of strange people and too many puzzles. Why on earth does his housekeeper, Daphne, act so strange? And why does this house, supposedly abandoned for the past twelve  years, seem so lived in? As William pries deeper into the houses secrets, he unknowingly digs into Daphne’s past and uncovers secrets she buried long ago. Secrets she does not want dug up.

This one started off a bit slow, but then it took off! The plot line was good, and the characters developed nicely. The ending was also dragged out a bit, but it was a good ending. 😉 This book gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for book three!!! Especially since it focuses on a side character I’ve been wanting to know more about! 🙂
